Our Governors

As a state maintained community school, Felbridge Primary is locally managed by a governing body. The following groups are represented on the governing body - staff, parents, the local education authority and the local community. The role of the governor, in any category, is voluntary.

The governing body work in partnership with staff to develop the school. They meet regularly, working hard to achieve the very best education for all pupils at the school.

Parent governors are elected by their fellow parents and represent their views. If you would like to help the school by becoming a governor, please get in touch with the Headteacher to find out what is involved. All governors are supported by induction and further training opportunities to support them in the role.

The following are short profiles of the members of the governing body of Felbridge Primary School which will hopefully provide an insight into everyone’s background and also an indication of the diverse skills and experiences we collectively represent.
Mark Taylor Chair of Governors (Co-Opted Governor)
I was appointed a Governor in April 2010 and Chair of Governors in September 2014. I've worked in education and youth work roles for nearly 23 years - six years as a teacher in a West Sussex comprehensive school, followed by 17 years as Education & Youth Diversion Manager for Surrey Fire & Rescue Service. Responsibilities include establishing and maintaining partnerships, recruiting and developing volunteer staff in role and securing external public and corporate funding to finance educational programmes. I hope that such skills and experience are transferable, useful to the Governing Body and a benefit to the school. I'm married, to Jane, with a daughter, Jessica, who is now at Imberhorne School, having received a firm educational foundation at Felbridge School. I enjoy playing badminton, swimming, walking our dog, reading and listening to a range of music.
Claire Marsden Vice Chair (Parent Governor)
Now in my second term of office, I have served on the Governing Body of Felbridge Primary since 2010. My husband and I moved to Felbridge ten years ago, and our two daughters recently transferred to secondary school, having received a brilliant start to their education here. My long association with the school has also involved helping as a parent volunteer, something I have enjoyed as much as the challenges and responsibilities of my role as a governor.
I have a degree in Modern Languages and worked for several years in London as an editor in the book publishing industry, before taking a career break to start a family; I then retrained as an adult education tutor, and for the last five years have been teaching French and Spanish, both privately and in the public sector.
When I get the time, I enjoy walking, running and reading!
Andrea Trigg Co-Headteacher
I have been the Co-Headteacher at Felbridge Primary School since September 2015, having decided to reduce my hours at work. I was previously the full-time Headteacher, having been Deputy Head here before that. I have worked at Felbridge for 18 years and taught at two other Surrey school previously, both very different from Felbridge. I very much enjoy being a part of the Felbridge community and, along with the rest of the dedicated staff team, I want all the children to leave our school having achieved more than they thought possible and ready for the next stage of their learning journey.
Yasmin Ravandi Co- Headteacher (Co-Opted Governor)
I have been the Co-Headteacher at Felbridge Primary School since September 2015, having been the deputy headteacher for the previous 7 years, following a relocation from London. I had previously worked in North London, in a 3 form entry Junior school. I have been very happy at Felbridge and have loved working in the school and wider village community. I am proud to lead, together with my co-head and dedicated staff team, such a happy and welcoming school. We work hard to help prepare our children for their ‘Journey of a Lifetime’ and strive to ensure our children, ‘Achieve more than they thought possible’.
Julie Nicholson (Co-Opted Governor)
I have been a member of the Governing Body since 2014, with a specific focus on finance and data.  I am accountant by training and worked in the financial services sector for 30 years both as a consultant and as an executive within the banking industry, before becoming a non-executive director.  I have a number of voluntary roles as Treasurer to a couple of children-focussed charities, my local tennis club and also the parents' association of my daughter's school. I am married with six children, the youngest of whom are now teenagers.  Outside of work I am a keen tennis player and enjoy skiing, theatre and music.
Lou Friel (Co-Opted Governor)
I have been a teacher of English for over 20 years. I am currently teaching English at Imberhorne School where I specialise in teaching at  Key Stage 3. In addition, I am heavily involved with transition from Primary to Secondary School. My Key stage 2 coordinator post allows me to work with a variety of staff and students with in most of the East Grinstead Primary schools. I am lucky enough to organise Literacy projects between the Primary schools and Imberhorne Lower school.
Furthermore, my role as Assistant head of year at Lower school, enables me to have contact with not only the key stage 3 students currently with us but with the new cohort group transferring from Year 6 to Year 7.
When I am not teaching I enjoy most sports, especially tennis and badminton. Reading a good book is always high on my list and I love  to cook.
Laura Simpson (Staff Governor)
I joined the staff of Felbridge Primary School in September 2013 as a Newly Qualified Teacher from Brighton University.  I currently teach in Class 6, but have also enjoyed teaching in Classes 2 and 5 during my time at Felbridge.  This year I have taken on the role of Deputy SENCO within school and am studying at Chichester University for the National Award for SENCO qualification.  I became a Staff Governor in 2015 for the opportunity to experience the ‘behind-the-scenes’ workings of a school and have enjoyed and valued the insight and experience it has given me.  In my spare time, I enjoy playing netball, watching Spurs play at White Hart Lane, reading and socialising with friends and family.
Aldo Gualtieri (Parent Governor)
I am a parent of two children at Felbridge, one in year 2 and the other in year 5. I am also an ex pupil and have the most wonderful memories of this place that I hold dear to my heart. When we first moved back I was so pleased that my children were able to attend Felbridge Primary, and when the opportunity came to apply for a position as governor, I jumped at the chance. I have been a governor for over three years now and have enjoyed contributing to the continuing success of the school. I currently run two businesses and have worked in education as a P.E teacher for a special needs school. One thing I have noticed about Felbridge is that everyone that is involved with these brilliant children are amazingly committed to guide and create the best outcomes for their future. I hope that I have, and can continue to, help make Felbridge and its pupils a continued success in the future.
Pauline Keetley (Parent Governor)
As a working parent of 3 children, I wanted to be able to help in school, but was unable to do so due to work!  Initially I became a member of the PTA, starting as a regular member, moving onto the Secretary role and now as the Chair.  I then took the opportunity of joining the Governing body so I could become an active part of shaping and developing our school.  It's a rewarding role, knowing that you are part of developing the future of the school and most importantly the children
Sarah-Louise Knott (Parent Governor)
I have 2 children at Felbridge, and have been a parent governor since February 2015. I have over 15 years’ varied experience the construction and education sectors, where I have held positions in project/programme management and in teaching, training and facilitation. I spent some years lecturing in strategic, organisational and project management, and most recently has moved back into practice, as part of the programme management team for a large development in east London. I have a great deal of experience in understanding and balancing the needs and expectations of resource-constrained stakeholder groups – none more complex, formidable and precious than children! I have recently helped to refresh the school’s vision, mission and values statements, and I feel privileged to play a small part in helping the school community to fulfil these aspirations.
Jenna Duffett (Parent Governor)
With a child at Felbridge Primary and one that has just completed her education here, I very much enjoy working in partnership with the school as a parent governor and an active PTA member.  I am a Chartered Financial Planner with 17 years’ experience in financial services and a Director of my own business.  My core skills are in finance, and I also manage a team that requires HR skills.  As a Director, corporate governance is key to my responsibilities and I have found that the governance of a school is not much different in skill requirement and compliance requirements.  I wanted to be involved with the school as I firmly believe in good education for children, but also ensuring that children are equipped for all aspects of life at school.
Eddie Erasmus (Associate member)

This is my first role as a School Governor.  I trained as a teacher in South Africa and have mainly worked in special needs education, both as a teacher and IT manager.  I currently work at Young Epilepsy in Lingfield as Head of IT and as an independent IT consultant for other organisations.  I have been involved in national initiatives to develop and implement new technologies in education and to assist children and young people to make better use of technology to support their learning.
I am looking forward to being able to contribute to this excellent school and hope my contribution will be of benefit to the whole school community.

Rupert Barnes (Co-opted Governor)

I've lived in Blindley Heath for twenty years and was delighted to be appointed a Governor in September 2017. I have run an IT consultancy for over 30 years and we have been involved in a number of education projects including Advanced Skills Teachers, Newly Qualified Teachers, PSHE, pupil self-help and governance.  I have a particular interest in politics, education and equal opportunities.
I have a firm belief in my old school motto: "a Child's mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled". In addition to running a business, my roles have included programming, system design and project management.

I hope I can make a useful contribution to the governing body and the school. I am married with two grown up children, one grandchild and a poodle named Prudence. I enjoy skiing, triathlon, swing and ballroom dancing, singing and playing the saxophone.

Helen Rodgers (Clerk to the Governors)
I am a qualified Company Secretary and worked in London for 15 years including 13 years at a large retail bank. I started as a clerk to the governors at a primary school in Uckfield in 2009 and now act as clerk to a number of local schools which I find rewarding and gives me the flexibility to spend time with my family.
